OU men and women vie for places in NCAA basketball tournament

Oakland University's men's and women's basketball teams won games in the Summit League tournament this weekend to advance to today's finals.

Senior Erik Kangas scored 21 points, and junior Johnathon Jones had a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists, to lead Oakland University (22-11) to its school record ninth consecutive win, upending No. 7 seed South Dakota State (13-20) 74-56 in the semifinals of the Summit League Tournament on Monday night inside Sioux Falls Arena.

Senior April Kidd turned in an impressive 14-point, nine-rebound, seven-steal, and six-assist performance, while Junior Melissa Jeltema scored 13 points, sophomore Brittany Carnago added 11 points, and senior Jessica Pike added 10 points as the Oakland University women's basketball team (26-5) knocked off North Dakota State (16-13) 67-48 in the semifinals of The Summit League tournament on Monday at the Sioux Falls Arena.
