OUAG exhibit explores perspectives of city strollers
The Oakland University Art Gallery (OUAG) will host “CONTEMPORARY FLÂNERIE: Reconfiguring Cities,” an exhibit exploring the perspectives of people who walk about cities in order to fully experience them, from March 7 through April 12.
In view of current trends in globalization, immigration and technology, this collection of work examines how people in a highly mobile society experience any given place as both tourists and potential residents. With a special focus on photography, video and computer-based art, it also invites visitors to consider how flâneur and flâneuse contextualize their urban experiences.
A full-color catalogue, featuring all participating artists and related essays, will accompany the exhibition. Artist and scholar presentations will be scheduled during the run.
An opening reception has been set for 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, and a curator’s talk will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. Both the exhibit and the special events are free and open to the public.
The OUAG is open from noon to 5 p.m. every day, except Mondays. It is also open in the evenings during Meadow Brook Theatre (MBT) performances. For more information, visit the OUAG Web site.
