OU offers workshop on starting a private practice in counseling
Oakland University’s School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) will host “Starting a Private Practice in Counseling,” a workshop for licensed professional counselors and graduate counseling students, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 13. The deadline for an early registration discount is Friday, Feb. 20.
Key topics include requirements for starting a private practice in Michigan, clientele development, marketing strategies, liability and documents needed to build and maintain a practice.
Kim Spampinato, MA, LPC, NCC, founder of Generations Counseling Center, will lead the workshop. With several years of experience in private practice and training, she has presented nationally on a variety of topics ranging from business communication to career counseling. Her clients include the U.S. Department of Transportation, MCI, ABC Warehouse, Weight Watchers, AAA, Farmer Jack and Verizon Wireless. She served as clinical counselor and autism program developer at OU. Spampinato earned a master's degree in counseling and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
Laurie Orlando, JD, MA, LLPC, NCC, an attorney with more than 20 years of experience and a licensed counselor in private practice, will address the topics of small business start up, operations and risk.
