WXOU, Student Video Productions snag state honors

By Eric Reikowski, media relations assistant

WXOU and Student Video Productions (SVP) were recently recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) for outstanding achievements in the field.

WXOU’s Matt Pocket won first place in the Sports Play by Play category, while Mike Parsons, Chuck Kanouse and Erik Anderson earned an honorable mention in the Station Activities Report category, which involved creating a short essay and demo tape chronicling the station’s activities in the community throughout the year.

“It’s very exciting for WXOU,” said Erik Anderson, the station’s program director. “We’ve been working very hard at trying to win awards at MAB for several years.”

Additionally, Anderson and fellow SVP member Kim Yonick earned second place in the TV Talk Show category. Their show “Best Tech” features the latest news and information concerning the technology and video game world.

“We're both very excited as we've been working very hard to make changes to the show to put something on the air that is both fun for us to produce and also something worthwhile for the audience to watch,” Anderson said.

“We're improving with each year that we enter MAB and are looking forward to winning even more awards next year.”

The winners will receive their awards at the Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference & Expo on March 11.
