The OU Alumni Association (OUAA) is accepting scholarship applications until Feb. 13 for the 2009-10 academic year.
“This is an opportunity where we recognize the students that have been here based on their merit and not on need,” said Carol Carpenter, OUAA Outreach Coordinator. She added that rewarding students for their hard work is the best thing about the scholarship program.
Because of donations from OUAA members and fundraising events, the OUAA has awarded about $875,000 in scholarships to OU students, and in 2008, almost $85,000 in scholarships were awarded to 35 students.
The are 13 different scholarships available, including the Honors College Alumni Affiliate Scholarship, Black Alumni Affiliate Scholarship, Working Student Scholarships, Returning Alumni Scholarships, Legacy Scholarships and others for students within the various academic schools at OU.
Requirements for the scholarships include being enrolled as a full-time student, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better within the student’s field of study, and having junior or senior status. Sophomores who will have junior status at the time of scholarship distribution also are eligible.
