OU helps brighten holiday spirit in Rochester

Oakland University helped make this year's Rochester Christmas Parade, "Christmas Around the World," a memorable experience for thousands who lined Main Street and many more who watched the popular annual event live on WXYZ-TV Channel 7.

Oakland University’s fight song played loudly as the OU cheer and dance squads marched alongside OU’s Grizz vehicle. Members of OU’s Alpha Phi Omega, a national coed service fraternity, proudly carried the Oakland University banner. Two OU students, Paola Yumpo of Peru and Anirudh of India, represented OU’s international student population.

This year’s parade grand marshal was OU charter class Graduate Tom Werth (CAS ’63). A lifelong Rochester resident, Werth is also a former City of Rochester mayor and longtime councilman. In its 57th year, the parade also featured high school marching bands, floats and Santa Claus.

The parade is organized annually by the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce, a proud partner of Oakland University. OU students have been involved in the parade each year since 2003.
