Susan Davies Goepp, Oakland University vice president for University Relations and executive director of the Oakland University Foundation, was honored with the Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award at the annual Philanthropy Day banquet Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn.
Presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)-Greater Detroit Chapter, the award recognizes Goepp’s 20-year philanthropic career and her distinguished service to various organizations such as the North Oakland YMCA and Certified Fundraising Executive International. She currently serves on the AFP-Greater Detroit Chapter and has delivered informative presentations on topics such as “Asking for the Big Gift” and “Organizing Your Fundraising Office” at seminars and AFP chapter meetings.
Since joining Oakland University in 2001, Goepp has been instrumental in promoting the long-term growth of the institution. In 2005, under Goepp’s leadership, the university launched its first-ever comprehensive capital campaign with a goal of reaching $110 million by 2010. OU officials announced in October that the campaign had already surpassed the $100 million mark.
“Every gift – from the smallest to the largest – has been critical to the success of this campaign,” said Goepp. “People have been inspired to give because of their passion for Oakland and because they know their support will have a major impact on future generations of students.”
As part of the National Philanthropy Day event, OU also recognized retired budget director Patrick Nicosia and his wife, Mercy, as Distinguished Volunteers for their longtime support of the university.
