Oakland University staff and students have put creativity and technical know-how to commendable use in promoting the technology mentoring services and cutting-edge technology available at the university’s Student Technology Center (STC). In fact, the group’s work has garnered national recognition from a computing peer group.
The Special Interest Group for University and College Computing Services (SIGUCCS), a division of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), has honored a promotional video developed by STC Director Brandon Bernier, University Housing Systems Specialist Adam Sternburgh, and students Jared Radtke, Mike Harris and Tim Akers with a 2008 Award of Excellence.
The video encourages Oakland University students to take advantage of not only technology coursework and project mentoring services, but an array of high-tech equipment offered at the STC. The latter include PC and Apple computers, color laser printing, CD and DVD burning, photo scanners, a wide variety of software, and digital cameras and camcorders.
The Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding promotional materials produced by higher education computing centers, was presented during the ACM SIGUCCS conference in Portland, Ore., held October 19-22.
ACM is the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, uniting computing educators, researchers and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources and address the field’s challenges. SIGUCCS focuses on issues surrounding the support, delivery and management of information technology services in higher education.
