“We are very excited to announce that this year Orientation and New Student Programs is collaborating with both University Housing and the Center for Multicultural Initiatives in our recruitment of student leaders. In an effort to make the process even more student friendly, students are able to apply for any of the four leadership positions simply by filling out one application and could possibly secure more than one position,” said Christina Miller, coordinator of Orientation and New Student Programs. “We hope that simplifying this process will encourage even more students to take advantage of these exciting resume building opportunities.”
Leadership Opportunity Kick Off Fair and Information Sessions
Interested students must attend an information session to learn about the various positions, pay rates and the application process. Students may then fill out one application for all the positions and provide supplemental information for the specific positions that interest them. One application will be used to apply for multiple positions.
“This is an exciting opportunity for students to get involved and give back to the institution and have fun doing it,” said David Tindall, assistant director of Residence Life.
The information sessions will provide students with a look at each position and the qualifications for each. The Peer Mentor positions require a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA while the rest of the positions require a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA as of the end of fall semester 2008. Applications are due by 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30.
“This is an awesome opportunity for all three departments and all three groups of student leaders to collaborate and learn from each other” said Bridget Green, retention coordinator for the Center for Multicultural Initiatives.
Once the applications have been reviewed, a limited number of students will be called back for a group interview called the “group process”. From there, the applicants will participate in individual interviews and further group sessions with either, Housing, Orientation and New Student Programs, and the Center for Multicultural Initiatives.
