Lit to Film Book Club announces 2008/09 lineup

The OUAA Lit to Film Book Club began its new year on September 2 with a viewing of Personal Velocity and a discussion of the book by Rebecca Miller on which it was based.

The book club is sponsored by Kresge Library and the Oakland University Alumni Association. It is held on the first Tuesday of the month (with an exception this year for Election Day); members read the book before the meeting date and have a discussion following the viewing of the film. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. and typically end by 9 p.m.

The meeting dates and titles for the 2008-09 season are as follows:

·         September 2: Personal Velocity by Rebecca Miller
·         October 7: Atonement by Ian McEwan
·         November 11: No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
·         December 2: The Bee Season by Myla Goldberg
·         January 6: About a Boy by Nick Hornby
·         February 3: Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
·         March 3: Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
·         April 7: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
·         May 5: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominque Bauby
·         June 2: Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

The group is led by Anne Switzer, assistant professor of information services and outreach librarian at Kresge Library. If you would like more information about the book club or would like to become part of the group, please contact her at (248)370-2475 or switzer2@oakland.edu. You may also contact Gail Meyers at (248) 364-6132 or meyers@oakland.edu.

Participation in the book club is contingent upon membership in the Alumni Association. There is a "Friends" membership available to individuals who are interested in joining but are not graduates of OU. To join the Alumni Association, or if you have questions about membership, contact Gail Meyers at (248) 364-6132 or meyers@oakland.edu.
