PAWLEY LEAN INSTITUTE
LEAN THINKING FOR SCHOOLS™

LeanSchools™ eNews October 2008

Welcome to the LeanSchools™ eNews from the Oakland University Pawley Lean Institute. This is a monthly communiqué of the best in thinking for Lean schools. We invite you to read the information and realize that great strides can be made in the journey when you connect with others.

Last month we addressed the question “Who is Lean?” by identifying Lean organizations beyond the manufacturing sector.

This month we want to link you to the experiences of a service organization in the midst of sorting out projects for their initial Lean journey. The experiences of the staff at the University of Michigan Health Systems are presented in an interview with Dr. Jack Billi, who is directing the Lean transformation at UMHS.

In this interview you will discover the importance of “thinking big and acting small” at first and how Lean initiatives are the fist steps toward transforming the culture of an organization. We think you can learn about your transformation after reading Dr. Billi’s interview.

Feel free to forward this information by e-mail to a friend as the LeanSchools community is a growing network of improvement champions!

All the best,
