OUCARES to host family fun day Oct. 4

The Oakland University Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES) will host its annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 4, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Campus Recreation Center. A variety of activities are planned, including swimming, arts and crafts, moonwalks, and caricatures, as well as a sensory room staffed by professionals from Kaufman Children’s Center.

In addition, the event is an opportunity for families of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders to learn about the resources available to them. Families will be able to meet with representatives from more than 20 organizations, including the Autism Society of Michigan–Oakland County Chapter, Autism Society of Michigan–Macomb/St. Clair Chapter County Chapter, Detroit Institute for Children, Easter Seals Society of Michigan, Abilities Center Inc., and the Ann Arbor Center for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

OUCARES integrates academic course work, knowledge and research to prepare professionals to be leaders in the autism community. Through numerous educational programs for professionals, support services for families, and inclusion in the community, OUCARES encourages the exchange of ideas relating to Autism Spectrum Disorders and fosters the improvement of daily life for individuals impacted by autism.
