E-portfolio helps students explore majors, career paths

By Eric Reikowski, media relations assistant

The Advising Resource Center (ARC) e-portfolio is an interactive Web resource geared toward helping OU students discover and navigate the world of college majors and career avenues.

“ARC e-Portfolio was created for first-year, undecided students to connect with one another and ARC advisers,” said Shaunda Mankowski, career and academic adviser. “We want them to know that they are part of a community of students who are all exploring options and deciding on a major.”

Accessible 24/7, the Web site offers a repository of student-centered tools, including general education worksheets to help students track their academic progress, information on campus support offices, a calendar of important dates throughout the fall semester and a complete listing of ARC workshops.

The Web site also includes links to career resources, video tutorials on how to prepare for an advising appointment and various tips for a successful college career.

E-portfolio users can create profiles introducing themselves to other participants, as well as interact with ARC advisers and student mentors who can answer questions and discuss a wide array of college-related issues.

“We invite students to share their ideas and questions, and want to encourage them to access the helpful resources that are available,” Mankowski said.

For more information, visit the ARC Web site or contact the ARC at (248) 370-3227.
