Congressman Knollenberg to speak at OU Center for Pre-Symptom Health Care event

Oakland University's School of Nursing received a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the amount of $330,000 for the implementation of a Center for Pre-Symptom Health Care and Societal Research. Congressman Joe Knollenberg will present the check at a reception on Monday, Sept. 29, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Gold Rooms of the Oakland Center.

The Center for Pre-Symptom Health Care and Societal Research will be housed in Oakland County and will directly benefit the OU community and residents of Oakland County and surrounding areas by incorporating a unique model for wellness. This model focuses on the essential health care functions including pre-symptom health care screening, evaluation, treatment and research on issues related to the health of society, while serving as an advocate for positive change. The center will combine state-of-the-art advancements in medical technology and the most current research on preventative methods along with physicals, educational information and nutritional counseling necessary for maintaining good health.

Funds from the award will be used to purchase equipment that will assist in preventive and chronic disease management services, as well as promote complementary and alternative therapies.

HRSA is the primary agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for improving access to health care services for people who are uninsured, isolated or medically vulnerable. HRSA provides both leadership and financial support to health care providers in the United States.
