Van Gogh to Dali…Unique viewing of DIA exhibit available to OUAA members
OUAA members will receive a unique and personalized look at the upcoming Detroit Institute of Arts exhibit, Monet to Dali: Modern Masters from the Cleveland Museum of Art, at a special event planned for Oct. 24. The evening will include a reception for OU alumni and friends beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation by Tamara Machmut-Jhashi, associate professor of Art and Art History at Oakland University.
The exhibit will include works ranging from the dynamic brushstrokes of Van Gogh to the hazy delicacy of Monet. Viewers will also see Cezanne’s spectacular works, Picasso’s inventive creations and Dali’s fantastic dreamscapes. Experts agree that these artists profoundly changed the course of European art history and blazed a new path for modern art across the western world.
“It is a very distinctive and interesting range of work,” Machmut-Jhashi says. “The works on exhibit are very important to the development of the modernist canon. Viewers will see examples from 1860 up to World War II and really experience how modernism evolved.”
The program, one of an extensive schedule of distinctive opportunities in the OUAA’s 2008-2009 event season, will take place during the DIA's Friday Night Live programming. Cost is $35 per person and includes admission to the DIA, the Monet to Dali special exhibition and a strolling dinner reception. A cash bar will be available.
