OU, Lawrence Tech to host career expo Sept. 30

By Eric Reikowski, media relations assistant The second annual “Tech x 2 Expo = LTU + OU” career fair will be held on the Lawrence Tech campus Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will give OU and LTU students majoring in engineering, computer science and technology the chance to meet with some of the region's top employers in those fields. More than 40 companies have already registered, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Ford Motor Company, Detroit Diesel Corporation, DENSO International America and the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers. “I think this is a great opportunity for our students to obtain more employment opportunities, especially during these hard economic times,” said Estella Nicholson, assistant director of Career Services at OU. “The event gives employers who may not know about OU a venue to meet our students and faculty.” In addition to learning about employment options, participants will have the opportunity to take part in onsite interviews. For consideration, students should submit their resumes via OUCareerLink by Monday, Sept. 15. “Employers will pre-select students for a portion of their interview schedule,” Nicholson said. “Students who are not preselected or who fail to submit a resume by the deadline will have an opportunity during the expo to compete for the remaining slots.” The interviews will be conducted following the expo from 2:30-5 p.m. in LTU's Buell Management Building. Nicholson calls the partnership between Oakland and Lawrence Tech a win-win situation for everyone. “It has been great working with the career services staff at LTU,” she said. “We both saw the need for our students and employers, and we worked together to make the event happen.” Transportation from the OU campus to LTU will be available starting at 9:30 a.m. The pick-up and drop-off point will be in parking lot 3 near the corner of Meadow Brook Drive and West Oakland Drive.
