Today, the Rochester Hills Parks and Forestry Department advised the Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) that a "deer die off" is currently being experienced in the general area. At this time, it is believed the problem may be related to a bacterial issue.
Members of the campus community who observe deer acting strangely (i.e., as if in a stupor, staggering, frothing at the mouth, seemingly unaware of humans, etc.) should not approach the deer. Such observations should be reported to the OUPD at 911 via campus phone or (248) 370-3333 via cell phone, with as specific a location as possible. The OUPD will respond, take appropriate actions to ensure the area is safe, and notify the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
