In the past few months, construction crews have been working on numerous projects to enhance the quality of Oakland’s nearly 1,500-acre campus. The bulk of the work began in May and demanded the expertise of more than 10 contractors. It represents another significant investment in the long-term growth of the university, according to Terry Stollsteimer, associate vice president of facilities management at OU.
“The majority of the work was for upgrading labs and classrooms in buildings that are more than 40 years old,” said Stollsteimer. “We’ve also repaired roofing, utility tunnels, elevators, parking lots and sidewalks that have outlived their useful life.”
Stollsteimer said that approximately $3 million was invested in the construction projects, and more improvements are on the way.
“We have several other projects of more than $2 million dollars on schedule for the fall, including lab renovations and additional infrastructure items,” Stollsteimer said.
Other recently completed projects include an additional office in the Recreation and Athletics Center, a lawn irrigation system at the Matthews Court Apartments and Vandenberg Hall, and security upgrades in Wilson Hall.
