Students living in Oakland University’s residence halls this semester can move in beginning Saturday, Aug. 30. Freshmen and transfer students can begin moving in on Aug. 30 and all others can check-in on Sunday, Aug. 31. Check-in period runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Afterward, University Housing will offer a number of activities to welcome students back to campus.
All students are encouraged to come early on check-in day. Students should report to the Vandenberg Dining Center to obtain their room assignment and keys.
To keep things orderly, the Hamlin Circle will be closed to traffic. Instead, the eastbound lane of Meadow Brook Drive, which runs next to Vandenberg and Hamlin halls, will be closed to allow for unloading. Meadow Brook Drive will be one-way, westbound only, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Once students have unloaded their large objects, their cars should be removed from the unloading lane and parked elsewhere. Carts are available for student use as well.
Oakland University Police Department and volunteers from a number of student and Greek organizations will be on-hand to provide directions and assistance to those moving in.
Space is a concern in the residence halls. Student are encouraged to bring weather-appropriate clothing and use holiday breaks and other trips home to trade-out for other seasonal items.
Other suggestions of things students should bring to campus:
· Cleaning products for rooms and bathrooms
· Decorating material with the exception of paint, wallpaper and other paper with adhesive backing
Students should leave pets at home. Fish are the only pet allowed and they must be in an aquarium no bigger than 10 gallons. For more information on what to bring and what to leave at home, visit the University Housing Web site.
