Data Breach Update

A data breach recently occurred on Oakland University’s campus. An external hard drive containing some personal student data was stolen. This breach was limited in scope and impacted only a small number of people. There have been no reports of identity theft or misuse of the information as a result of the data exposure. The OUPD is investigating.

Oakland has retained a firm, ID Experts, to assist anyone who may be affected by this breach. A letter was mailed on July 11, 2008 to those individuals who could potentially be affected with instructions about what steps to take to safeguard their personal data.
