Theatre alums set their sights for NYC

Oakland University theatre alumi Elise Castle, Annie Phillips, Ben Lynch, Alicia Psciuk, Courtney Warford and Renee Turner, with friend Tom Russell, have produced a fund-raising show, "The Broadway Bunch," to help underwrite their move to New York to pursue careers in theatre.

They'll present this meaningful Broadway revue on August 1 and 2, 8 p.m., at Avon Players theatre in Rochester.

After graduating, the friends began to work very hard to earn money to make their move possible. Recognizing they would need more cash than they could earn, even with multiple jobs, they realized the best fundraiser seven performers could possibly do, would be a performance.

"This will be an evening of Musical Theatre both contemporary and classic," Elise Castle said.  "These are not songs that were just picked out of a hat, or decided by a director, this review has heart. We have all chosen songs that were influential to us, songs from shows that really made us want to go into this career. We believe that if our audience is supporting our dream, we should invite them into our lives for a brief moment and share with them what makes our desire to perform one that triumphs over any other career option."

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS: Being Green Productions is composed of seven actors from the Metro-Detroit area. Alicia Psciuk of Columbus, Annie Phillips of Ferndale, Ben Lynch of Midland, Courtney Warford of Waterford, Elise Castle of Warren, Renee Turner of Rochester, and Tom Russell of Rochester. The Broadway Bunch is Directed/Produced/Performed by Being Green Productions with some help from longtime friends from the local theatre community.
