“We are proud partners of the City of Rochester,” said Gary Russi, president, Oakland University. “This type of recognition affirms the outstanding quality of life this area offers as a result of its committed leadership and citizens.”

This is the tenth year Relocate America has compiled the best places to live in the United States, determined by statistics and feedback of the people who live and work in these communities. Nominations include data about education, employment, economy, crime, parks, recreation and housing.

“In addition to a thriving downtown, great parks and many family oriented activities, Rochester boasts outstanding public schools, and the nationally recognized Oakland University,” said Sheri Heiney, Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce executive director. “Access to high quality education is an important aspect of this recognition.”

Rochester was among four other cities named to the list, including Brighton, Grand Rapids, Plymouth and Traverse City.

In 2005, the Rochester area was named 39th in a list of the top 100 cities in which to live by “Money Magazine” and “CNN Money.”

The City of Rochester and Oakland University have had a long history dating to the university’s founding in 1959. Rochester and Oakland University signed a partnership agreement in 2003, with the goal of sharing the vibrant Rochester community with OU students, alumni, faculty and staff. Downtown Rochester is home to nearly 400 businesses in retail, restaurant and service industries.

The partnership has provided Oakland students opportunities to participate in the annual Rochester Christmas parade and Dancin’ in the Street events, and showcase their work in art galleries during the Gallery Stroll. In addition, local merchants offer discounts through the GO Discount Card.
