Student-athletes named to academic league team

Oakland University student-athletes found success both on and off the court this season, and 143 Golden Grizzlies student-athletes have been named to The Summit League Winter-Spring Academic All-Summit League teams, as announced Wednesday by the league office. After placing second in the league in the fall with 61 student-athletes named to the fall academic squad, and placing second in the spring with 143, OU took the overall top spot with 204 academic honorees this past year.

Oakland was the only institution in The Summit League to place over 200 student-athletes on Academic All-Summit League teams this year.

“The level of commitment our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff have to ensuring both athletic and academic success is second to none,” said athletics director Tracy Huth. “Being able to balance academic and athletic commitments is the toughest challenge a student-athlete has to face, and they have passed this challenge with flying colors.”

In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the academic all-league team, he/she must have a 3.00 or better grade point average in the semester in which they compete and must use a year of eligibility.
