Look up in the sky. It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s a blimp and it’s congratulating the Oakland University alumni who found the areas worst pothole in a contest sponsored by WDIV Local 4. For their pothole find, Ben Fielder and Anthony Galina will be congratulated as the Goodyear blimp flies around the Detroit area this weekend, and they also won a trip for two to Cancun, Mexico.
“Anthony and I entered a picture we took of a pothole on the corner of Walton and Lapeer roads into the Belle Tire Worst Pothole contest. Last week we found out that we made the top three and that online voting would determine the winner. I found out that we won the contest,” Fielder said.
Fielder and Galina entered the picture in the contest through the WDIV Local 4 Web site, clickondetroit.com. Representatives from WDIV and Belle Tire narrowed the selections to three finalists and Web site users voted for the winner.
The pothole Fielder and Galina found was up against a pothole at Southeast County Line Road in Shepherd and one on Walker Road in Walker. In the picture submitted by Fielder and Galina, the support rods in the concrete can be seen at the bottom of the deep hole.
Fielder and Galina, who were also leaders of OU’s Spirit Squad, plan to take the Cancun trip together since they found the pothole together. They will select a date to take the trip in the coming weeks.
