The Oakland University Police Department, in conjunction with university administrators, maintains as its utmost mission the protection of the campus community’s safety. All students, faculty, staff and other university community members are encouraged to explore the new Oakland University Emergency Preparedness Web site to familiarize themselves with ways to avert and react to potential crisis situations on campus.
The Emergency Preparedness Web site addresses situations such as official university closings, tornado warnings, psychological emergencies, lock downs, evacuations, bomb threats and hazardous materials incidents.
“We are making a dedicated effort to talk to a spectrum of faculty, staff and student groups on campus to stress the importance of reviewing this information,” said Oakland University Police Chief Samuel Lucido. “Awareness is the key. Through this Web site we are able to provide as much information as we can about emergency preparedness at OU. We urge everyone to take the time to look at this important issue.”
The Emergency Preparedness Web site also contains information about the forthcoming text messaging system for emergency situations. Updates about the text messaging system will be posted on the Web site as details become available.
