Trish Shandor, former MaTilDa Award winner and Department of Music, Theatre and Dance class of 2004, has been honored with a Detroit Music Award in classical voice. She was also nominated in the "jazz voice" category at the awards ceremony, held April 25 at the Fillmore.
Trish has been performing professionally in musicals since the age of 11 and the private party and club scene since the age of 14. She has also been supporting her own career and education since the age of 12.
Trish has a BMA in vocal performance from Oakland University with a strong emphasis in both jazz studies and classical voice. She is a full lyric soprano who dabbles in coloratura repertoire and mezzo repertoire. She studies voice with Jan Albright and vocal jazz improvisation with Danny Jordan. Trish is sought after for her ability to be what the Michigan Opera Theatre Department of Community Programs considers a multi-genre vocalist and style master. She is one of Clinton Township’s most prominent vocal music educators and has successfully created some of the Metro Detroit areas most promising young talents, including Miss Michigan 2000, CheVonne Burton.
Besides singing classical music, she can often be seen and heard singing a variety of musical styles with a chameleon-like approach. She has been recognized by her colleagues as one of the most versatile vocalists in Metro Detroit. She is a 23-year performance veteran and has graced many local stages and also venues in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Orlando, Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, New York City, Chicago, Toronto, Tokyo and various cruise lines as a voice impressionist.
In 2004, Trish competed in over a dozen Opera competitions. That same year, she was honored by Oakland University as the Outstanding Student in Jazz Performance, and she was a featured vocalist on the Cable television program, “Time out for Opera” with Jonathan Swift, sponsored by the Michigan Opera Theatre.
Trish is an Artist-in-Residence with the Michigan Opera Theatre Touring Company and tours children’s operas to schools all over Michigan, the mid-west, and Canada. Trish is a member of the voice team at the Michigan Opera Theatre and runs her own private voice studio VOICE 911 ™. On top of the many hats she wears, she still performs locally and travels to perform across the United States.
Currently Trish is performing in the Detroit area with Grammy nominated jazz pianist James Dapogny and jazz cellist Mike Karoub (Royal Garden Trio).
