Mary F. Zeppelin

Excellence in Teaching Award
Special Instructor of Education

Mary F. Zeppelin, a special instructor at Oakland University for the past seven years, is distinguished as an outstanding teacher. Zeppelin is applauded by her students who comment that her class is “the best they have had as an undergraduate” and by colleagues who praise Zeppelin for her use of “alternative algorithms that allow kids to understand the concepts rather than becoming robots of rote math exercises.” She is also recognized for changing the traditional methods of teaching mathematics, as advocated by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, in the areas of middle school classroom teaching, university teaching, publishing innovative curricula, and presenting professional development workshops and service.
