The Oakland University Police Department sincerely appreciates the vigilance and cooperation of OU's students, faculty and staff as our campus community reopened Tuesday. It was a peaceful day, one that makes us all appreciate the safety and spirit of Oakland University.
However, as many of us may remember from our high school days, unfortunate events --- such as the graffiti discovered this past weekend --- sometimes spur immature copycat responses from others. Please stay alert and report anything of a suspicious nature --- even if it may be perceived as a joke --- to the Oakland University Police Department. We will respond, evaluate the situation and take the appropriate action. Those who mock the hurtful events of the past several days will be dealt with appropriately.
Tuesday evening a prank occurred in one of our residence halls, on a day when many students were feeling uneasy. The Chief of Police and Dean of Students met with residents to reassure them of the nonthreatening nature of the incident, and to request assistance gathering information about the perpetrator of this insensitive joke.
Rest assured that in the event of any actual threat, or an event which may potentially compromise the safety of our campus community, you will be notified through official OU channels, including the media.
To report suspicious activity, call the OUPD at 911 from any campus phone, or (248) 370-3331 from a cell phone.
