During the Alumni Association's Student-to-Alumni Power Networking dinner, students were able to talk to alumni who work in fields they are interested in. |
The Oakland University Alumni Association, along with the OU Student Congress and Future Alumni Network (FANs), hosted the Student-to-Alumni Power Networking Dinner on Tuesday, April 8. Through the event, students had the opportunity to learn more about prospective career fields from alumni who are in those fields.
More than 100 students and alumni registered to participate in the event. Students were matched with alumni based on career interests and were assigned to tables so they could discuss challenges, successes and network.
Adam Kochenderfer, CAS ’02, an attorney at law, was matched with students interested in attending law school.
“The Student-to-Alumni power networking dinner was a great opportunity for students to ask alumni questions about what they do and how they got there. Likewise, the alumni were able to connect back to the university,” Kochenderfer said.
Kochenderfer said the event also provided an opportunity for alumni to network with each other.
Ashley Stokes, an OU freshman and member of FAN, is interested in pursuing a career in sports marketing. Through the networking event, she was able to talk to an OU graduate who works in the entertainment marketing industry.
“I just wanted to connect with alumni and try to get my name out there. Even though I am a freshman, I wanted to get out there and see what internships were available and start planning for the future,” Stokes said.
Ally Kelly, president of FANs, said the students hope to make the networking dinner an annual event.
Alumni who participated received a steel etched desk business card holder and the student participants received a USB travel drive caddy.
