Eduation graduates and alumni are invited to participate in the Educators Recruiting Day on April 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms. More than 30 in and out of state school districts will hold 15 minute interviews with teaching candidates. Those interested in participating should sign up for interview sessions on the OUCareerLink Web site by April 18.
According to Denise McConkey, coordinator for College of Arts and Science and School of Education and Human Services in Career Services, the in- and out-of-state schools include public school districts, charter schools and private schools who are looking for both secondary and elementary school areas. Teachers in the sciences, math and special education are especially in demand.
The schools and districts will interview candidates that meet their required qualifications. Students must be registered in Career Services’ OUCareerLink system to sign up for interviews. To register, visit Career Services at 275 West Vandenberg Hall, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“This event is different from a career fair. It’s structured and students participate in scheduled interviews. One person can interview with five to six schools in one day. The students are guaranteed face time rather than only getting a couple of minutes or even no time at all,” McConkey said.
Those who participate in the Educator Recruiting Day should bring a resume and cover letter and dress in business attire for their interviews. Students should bring their SpiritCard for easy entry.
To help students and alumni prepare for these interviews, Career Services is holding an interview practice clinic on April 14 from 5-7 p.m. Call Career Services at (248) 370-3250 to register. Career Services is also available to help students who want to prepare resumes and cover letters. Open advising is available from noon to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday or by appointment.
For more information, include a list of schools and districts that will be participating, contact Career Services at (248) 370-3250 or visit the Career Services Web site.
