With most of the snow melting and spring-like weather on its way, the Center for Student Activities is hosting a campus cleanup on April 6 to pick up trash and debris that was covered by the snow piles this winter. Students, faculty and staff are invited to help clean-up the campus from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Participants should meet in the Fireside Lounge where a light breakfast will be available.
“They will be organized into groups and given supplies such as trash bags, gloves and maps and then sent out to clean up the campus and make it beautiful,” said Cressie Smith, assistant director of student activities and Greek life.
The clean-up groups will be directed mainly to the commuter parking lots and areas around the residence halls, Oakland Center and Bear Lake.
Smith said the campus cleanup usually draws 75-100 people but she expects the event to be bigger this year. Most of the volunteers are from OU’s sororities, fraternities and student organizations, but Smith encourages all students, staff and faculty to participate.
The campus cleanup is part of the Center for Student Activities Once-a-Month Volunteer program. Other Earth-friendly programs will be the focus of the May and June opportunities as well. Students can volunteer for the Water Festival, which will be held at Oakland University on May 22. In June, the volunteers will work at the Upland Hills River Day.
