Three Oakland jazz ensembles on stage April 1

The OU Jazz Band, the Oakland Jazz Singers and the OU Jazz Improv Combo, will perform in concert on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 8 p.m. in Varner Recital Hall. Tickets are $7, general seating.

The OU Jazz Band will perform “Across the Heart” by Dave Hanson, “Just Chattin’” by Lars Halle, “Alegria Latina” by Jerry Nowak, “Way to Go” by Lennie Niehaus, and “Knights in the Daylight”, by Bill Liston.

The Oakland Jazz Singers will perform contemporary vocal jazz arrangements by Paris Rutherford, Rosana Eckert, and Kerry Marsh, of “Autumn Leaves”, “Flor de Lis”, “One Mint Julep”, “Afro Blue”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Sing a Song of Song”. †All of the member of Jazz Singers will be featured on these arrangements as soloists.

The 10-piece Jazz Improv Combo will perform “Stolen Moments” by Oliver Nelson, “A Child is Born”, by Thad Jones and “Sidewinder” by Lee Morgan.

The OU Jazz Band and the Oakland Jazz Singers are under the direction of Danny Jordan. The Jazz Improv Combo is under the direction of John Hall. There will be refreshments after the concert on the mezzanine.
