Career Services offers first Health Science Career Day

Students majoring in an area of health science can meet with local employers and learn more about the internships, co-ops, paid and unpaid employment and explore career opportunities in their field during the Health Science Career Exploration Day on Wednesday, April 2 from noon-2 p.m. in the Oakland Center Gold Rooms.

All undergraduate and graduate students, along with alumni in Applied Health Sciences, Exercise Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physical Therapy, Pre-Pharmacy and the Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention programs can meet with employers from a number of companies to discuss employment opportunities. Career Services encourages those not graduating this year to attend as well to learn more about future career opportunities, co-ops, summer employment and tuition assistance and scholarships.

The list of employers is continuing to grow. Those companies planning to send representatives include Therapy Staff, Team Rehabilitation, Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers, Beaumont Hospital, Detroit Medical Center, Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, U.S. Army, Life Time Fitness, TheraMatrix Physical Therapy, Integrity Rehab Services, Intelligent Therapy Staffing, Compuware Corporation, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Sunshine Rehab Services, Michigan Health and Rehabilitation, Supplemental Health Care and Arbonne International.

Students and alumni who plan to attend should be prepared to make an impression. Career Services recommends developing a 30-second to one-minute introductory statement about yourself, including enthusiasm and confidence, your name, good eye contact, and information about the program you are in, your academic standing, your anticipated graduation date and the kind of information you would like to discuss with them. Students should also dress professionally and bring resumes, cover letters and SpiritCards for easy entrance.
