The School of Education and Human Services presented awards to three Oakland University employees for their service to the faculty and staff within the school. The inaugural Above and Beyond Service awards were presented to John Coughlin, senior systems analyst in E-Learning and Instructional Support, Eric Condic, manager of library systems at Kresge Library and Kristine Condic, associate professor in Kresge Library.
“We couldn’t do as faculty what we do without these professionals,” said Dawn Pickard, who presented each of the honorees with an award for their service. “This year, the director of our organization made a decision that we could not go another year without honoring those who serve us in the area of technology.”
Pickard said much of what the honorees do is behind the scenes, but it is integral to the success of the School of Education and Human Services.
Coughlin helped the SEHS with its first Web site nearly eight years ago. Since then, he has helped develop a Web site for the New Zealand program for students, field placement notifications, updated the SEHS programs on the OU at Macomb Web site, and developed an online petition for the Petition of Exception Committee. Coughlin did all of these things in a timely manner.
Eric Condic has provided support to the SEHS by providing cataloging and circulation technical support to the Educational Resources Lab (ERL) for more than 15 years. He was responsible for helping to set up OCLC search capabilities and the Voyager catalog, and makes continuous regular upgrades to ERL Voyager workstations. He has been instrumental in assisting with accommodating new technologies in the ERL, and also provides direct access to the ERL shelf list, which has proven invaluable with the new electronic shelf reading system. In addition, he provides needed statistical information that is useful when making both electronic and print materials selection decisions in the ERL. Eric Condic works with SEHS staff to discuss and brainstorm solutions to any Voyager problem that arises in the ERL.
Kristine Condic has provided support to the SEHS by providing seminars, teaching tools and doctoral research support to the faculty and students for many years. She is responsible for helping provide the most up-to-date search strategies and data base information to a number of undergraduate and graduate courses in the SEHS. Students and faculty alike value her expertise. Whether people come to her in person or electronically, she always has an idea or a solution to help solve problems. Kristine Condic is always willing to discuss and brainstorm new ways to describe key components of research questions, finding new pathways of information and idea generation.
The awards were presented during the SEHS’s Taste of Technology event.
