Global learning opportunities Oakland University is now the only university in the world to offer International Baccalaureate (IB) Level 1 program education for teachers spanning the entire K–12 curriculum, offered in conjunction with the IB Organization in Cardiff, Wales. Applications are being accepted for the fall 2008 cohort program with an information meeting scheduled on Thursday, May 13. Participants will be eligible to apply for IB’s Teacher Award Level 1 certificate at the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Program levels, upon completion of OU’s 20 graduate credit program. Professor Ledong Li will lead a study abroad to rural and urban China from June 27 through July 12. Participants will stay in Guiyang, Beijing and Shanghai, with field visits to historic sites, schools, businesses and health care facilities. OU’s Global Urban Education Exchange Program in Brazil affords teachers, administrators, researchers, and policy makers the opportunity to directly engage with important educational innovations in Porto Alegre’s public school programs for the urban poor. The New Zealand Student Teacher Exchange Program gives students in the elementary education teacher preparation program the opportunity to spend five weeks student teaching in a primary school in New Zealand. While there, they are house guests of a local family – usually a teacher in the school – and are immersed in the culture of the community.
