Oakland University Alumni Admissions Ambassadors have had opportunity to meet and greet newly admitted OU students and their families during the 2008 winter Welcome Receptions. Held in the banquet rooms on Oakland University’s campus, these receptions provide newly admitted students and their parents a meaningful evening with an opportunity to hear directly from Oakland’s leaders. During the reception, current students talk about their experiences and benefits from attending OU. Academic deans, advisors, and representatives from Student Affairs share information and answer questions about curriculum and student services.
During Welcome Receptions Alumni Admissions Ambassadors welcome newly admitted students and their parents, making a quality connection to the Oakland family and thus helping these students narrow their choice to Oakland.

“These receptions are a great opportunity for three generations of the OU family to interact; new students, current students, and alumni. As an alumnus, it is very fulfilling to return to OU and connect with new students and help make them feel welcomed to the OU family,” stated Alumni Host, Tom Schramski, SECS ’78, Product Engineering Supervisor for Ford Motor Company.
Alumni have shared their OU experience, connected with future Golden Grizzlies, while making a significant and meaningful contribution to their alma mater.
“Oakland University was instrumental in guiding my desire to thrive and reach a higher level of personal and professional accomplishment. This service is simply my way of saying thank you,” said Alumni Host, Napoleon Harrington, SEHS ’02, ’04, Founder and CEO of the Ambassador Learning & Resource Group.
On January 17, 2008, almost one hundred OU alumni now employed at the university took the opportunity to learn about OU's new initiative and to discover the creative new outlets to become an Alumni Admissions Ambassador for their alma mater.
