OU Symphony Chorus to perform at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall

The Oakland University Symphony Chorus will join forces with the Pontiac Oakland Symphony and two premiere choral groups in celebration of Oakland University's 50th anniversary through a presentation of Verdi’s Requiem on Wednesday, April 9 at Orchestra Hall at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit.

A new ensemble as of the 2006-07 season, the Symphony Chorus was formed to perform larger works, such as Verdi’s featured masterpiece, and represents Oakland University’s finest choral voices. Conducted by OU Associate Professor and Director of Choral Activities Michael Mitchell, the chorus is joining forces with the Cantata Academy Chorale, also led by Mitchell, and the Southfield Madrigal Chorale.

Comprised of many outstanding professional musicians in southeastern Michigan, the Pontiac Oakland Symphony Orchestra enjoys a strong and vital affiliation with Oakland University. Several members of the university's applied music faculty and its most accomplished music students complete the orchestra's roster. Gregory Cunningham, associate professor of music at Oakland University, serves as the orchestra's music director and principal conductor.

This event showcases Oakland's outstanding student musicians, as well as our resident symphony orchestra and two of Michigan’s outstanding choral groups, in one of Detroit's finest music venues. PLEASE NOTE: In the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance season brochure, the time of this performance is incorrectly listed. The performance will be held Wednesday, April 9, at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available through the Varner Box Office, open Tuesday-Friday, 3-6 p.m., at the door, or online at www.starticketsplus.com. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students.
