There’s a new way for students to find course equivalencies between Michigan universities and colleges. The Michigan Transfer Network is a centralized, Web-based system sponsored by the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, a non-profit professional organization, as a service to college and university students in Michigan.
Oakland University joins more than 50 Michigan colleges and universities participating in the system, which was launched in November.
“This makes it easier for a student to know up front how prior credits will transfer to different schools, so an informed decision can be made,” said Jenny Gilroy, senior associate registrar.
Approximately 1,400 students transfer to Oakland each year.
The Michigan Transfer Network was created in response to the Cherry Commission report.
“When the Cherry Commission report came out there was discussion about improving the ease of transfer between Michigan institutions and one of the suggestions was that we use a common course numbering system,” said Gilroy.
The MACRAO Web site already contained all the college and university home pages, with equivalency information posted by each school.
“MACRAO proposed that a common data base be developed so that students could search how their courses would transfer between any two- or four- year school and the idea was accepted,” said Gilroy.
