Students interested in Oakland University’s nursing programs have the opportunity to experience the state-of-the-art labs used for training future nurses. The School of Nursing is offering lab tours to prospective students throughout the winter semester.
“We opened the labs for tours based on requests from future students. They wanted to be able to see what Oakland University offered. We have a state-of-the-art lab including equipment and simulators,” said April Thomas-Powell, academic adviser in the School of Nursing.
The tours, which are given by nursing lab faculty, include a simulation with Mr. Grizzly and the SimBaby, two interactive mannequins used in the School of Nursing.
The tours begin at 3:15 p.m. in the admissions office. From there, the prospective students walk over to the nursing lab. The tours are approximately 30 minutes, after which students can participate in a pre-nursing program advising session at 4 p.m. Each tour is limited to 20 prospective students.
Tours are scheduled for Jan. 15, Feb. 12, March 11 and April 8. To sign up for a tour, visit the online registration Web site. The advising sessions are open to the public and do not require advance registration. For more information, call Thomas-Powell at (248) 370-4253.
