Leadership opportunities presented at info sessions

By Rebecca Wyatt Thomas, OU Web Writer

Students who want to get involved on campus can learn more about some campus leadership opportunities at information sessions held throughout January. Positions available include Orientation Group Leaders (OGL) and an Orientation Administrative Assistant for summer 2008, and Resident Assistants, Nightwatch workers and Apartment Community Assistants for the 2008-09 academic year.

“For the first time, Orientation and New Student Programs is working with University Housing to streamline the application process for students who would like to get involved through one or more of our leadership opportunities,” said Sara Webb, assistant director of Orientation and New Student Programs.

Leadership Opportunity Information Sessions

Interested students must attend an information session to learn about the various positions and the application process. Students may then fill out one application for all the positions and provide supplemental information for the specific positions that interest them. One application will be used to apply for multiple positions.

“This process is a new, leaner process for the students who are applying for these positions,” said David Tindall, assistant director of Residence Life. “We are always looking for new ways to work together and make things easier for the students.”

The information sessions will provide students with a look at each position and the qualifications for each. All positions require a 2.75 cumulative GPA as of the end of the fall 2007 semester. Applications are due by 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25.

Once the applications have been reviewed, a limited number of students will be called back for a group process. From there, the applicants will participate in individual interviews and further group sessions with either Housing or Orientation and New Student Programs.

Students who would like more information on the Housing opportunities can learn more from the Housing Jobs Web site. For more information on the OGL and Orientation Administrative Assistant position, visit the Leadership Opportunities Web site.
